Spotlight on the Brand - Bethan and Kate @Hotteamama

A beautiful blend of teas for pregnancy and beyond.

Who’s behind the brand?

We are Bethan and Kate. We met at uni (too long ago to mention!), Kate went on to be a ballerina and a marketeer. And I went on to become a tea taster and buyer for luxury tea companies in the UK. But when Kate had 2 babies within 2 years, she realised just how restrictive her diet was and also how limited affordable gifts for baby showers were. She suggested that we make a range of teas for women in pregnancy, but also for motherhood, and I loved the idea.

I was pregnant with my second baby at this point, almost 3 years ago, and we went about making 6 blends with a specific use - not just a generic 'pregnancy' blend. As the truth is something as broad as this, doesn't really have much of an impact. As we'd had kids, we knew the problems that we wanted to solve - help with morning sickness, a caffeine free booster, raspberry leaf tea to prepare for birth, breastfeeding support, a slow caffeine release blend and a sleep aid.

Each blend is made with whole leaf ingredients in biodegradable silken bags. We don't think women should have to scrimp on flavour and quality, but also don't want the faff of loose leaf tea to wash up. It took us over 6 months to make and test them, and we launched online in November 2018. It's been a whirlwind since then, as Kate moved to Australia and had her 3rd baby at the end of 2019, but we couldn't be happier - thank goodness for facetime!

What we love about the brand?

Hands up if you drink too much tea? Yes, I am definitely guilty of that one!!

Although, when I was pregnant with my boys, my tastebuds were different and I didn’t enjoy the flavour as much.

Hotteamama produce a wonderful blend of teas for both pregnant and new mums all designed to ease exhaustion, relieve the feeling of nauseous, lower caffeine levels etc and we’re all about making life easier and more comfortable here at A Little Bit Dotty!
The teas are beautifully packaged and can be used more them once making them the gift that keeps on giving………
‘A Little Bit Dotty’ is all about gifts for mums, babies and little ones so we thought it would be interesting if we asked Bethan & Kate a few parent related questions.
What parenting tip would you have given your pre-child self?
Lower your expectations. I struggled when I first had my daughter, as I wanted to be able to work, see people, cook, and care for a newborn. I obviously now realise that I was being completely unrealistic and I wish I could have told myself not to try to do more than 2 things (outside of childcare!) in a day.
What do you miss most about life before children?
Sleep. I laugh when I think how I used to be tired. I knew nothing!
What do you love most about being a parent?
Seeing my kids develop and grow into their own personalities. It's amazing to have 2 people, come from the same mix of parents and yet be so different.
What would you say is the hardest part about being a parent?
Trying not to worry. Mixed with sleep deprivation, it is so easy to become anxious - whether it's about is your baby is getting enough milk, or if they're hitting milestones at the right time, and then are they ok at nursery, are other kids being nice to them. It's a constant worry. I can only imagine what I'll be like when they are at secondary school!
What's the most embarrassing thing your child has said or done in public?
'Mummy, if all the people in the world come from sperm and eggs, how do all the women push babies through their vulva?' was shouted in line at school this week. I was quite proud that my 4 year old has a basic grasp of the facts, but also quite embarrassed by the looks I got from parents and older kids!
A big thank you to Bethan and Kate for taking part in Spotlight on the Brand.
