Spotlight on the Brand - Kylie @ Jack & Freda

Colourful, fun, stylish jewellery.

Who's behind the brand?

My background was working in advertising. It was a buzzy, work-hard, play-hard culture, loads of fun for the 7 or so years I was there, but not a job that I could easily slot back into after having children. The hours were long and I knew I didn't want to be commuting into Soho and juggling childcare. After our second son was born, we left London and moved to Berkshire to be nearer my husband's family.

Jack & Freda (named after my grandparents) started as a bit of a fun maternity leave project. In our new town, there were no cool, independent shops so I thought I'd set one up! I sold other makers products online and had a (very short-lived) market stall. I've always been a bit crafty, so thought I'd give making my own jewellery a go. My own products quickly became my bestsellers, so I gradually evolved from being a retailer, to developing my own brand - which is what you see today!

What do we love about Jack & Freda?

Colourful, stylish, fun jewellery that’s beautifully designed – what’s not to love?

A lot of our brands have been discovered through Instagram and when I stumbled across Jack and Freda at the end of last year, I knew I had to have a pair of tassel earringsfor myself and when they arrived, they didn’t disappoint!

Jack & Freda is the perfect addition to our For Mums collection. Their jewellery is beautifully packaged and makes a lovely gift or treat for yourself – it certainly makes this mum feel AMAZING!

Parenting

‘A Little Bit Dotty’ is all about gifts for mums, babies and little ones so we thought it would be interesting if we asked Kylie a few parent related questions.

What parenting tip would you have given your pre-child self?Try not to stress about developmental stages and milestones. Neither of my boys slept through the night until they were well over a year old, my eldest son refused to take a bottle, my youngest son had a slight speech delay... I bought ALL the books looking for the answers and it just piles on the pressure. It's so easy to say now they're a bit older, but try not to stress - they all get there in the end!

What do you miss most about life before children? Cheaper holidays! The freedom of being able to travel in term-time!

What do you love most about being a parent? The feeling of family. Those little moments when you're all together, having a good time, everyone's getting on and you can step back and think, wow, we made this, look at our gorgeous family.

What would you say is the hardest part about being a parent? Never being able to turn it off! There is constant worry, planning, thinking and organising, and the never ending tiredness!

What's the most embarrassing thing your child has said or done in public? There's an epic tantrum that still haunts me. In a huge supermarket...it was very loud, very embarrassing and ended with me dragging my son to the car by his coat with lots of people staring (and probably judging)

A big thank you to Kylie for taking part in Spotlight on the Brand.
