The Positive Wellbeing Zine for Mums

Who’s Behind the Brand?

I'm Emma, 30, from Lancashire. I am mum to Isabella, who is three, wife to Chris and also cat mum to our three cats; Pippin, Luna and Betty. Alongside running my business Isabella and Us. I also work as a full time teacher at a local College.

I founded Isabella and Us. over three years ago, when my daughter was four weeks old, after I struggled with the transition into motherhood and needed an outlet, both for my creativity but also to share an honest version of motherhood. I struggled with my mental health in the months after her birth and was later diagnosed with PND.

In September 2018 I launched the Positive Wellbeing Zine for Mums, born out of my own experience of needing something supportive and nourishing to read on my motherhood journey. It is an independent publication, full of articles, poems, illustrations and supported by other small businesses for mums, all around topics of self-care, motherhood and wellbeing.

What do I Love about the Brand?

The Positive Wellbeing Zine Magazine for Mums is a unique publication that has been carefully curated with a lot of love, care and attention to detail. Each edition offers practical advice and guidance from industry professionals as well as real life stories from other mums.

I love the fact that you can easily dip in and out of the magazine when you can spare 5 minutes. The articles are not only informative but also very relatable helping you realise you aren’t alone and there is no shame in asking for help if you are struggling with motherhood. The illustrations throughout are beautiful.

The A5 format is just the right size to carry around without weighing you down and it makes the perfect bath-time and/or bedtime companion!

Through the magazine, Emma is also supporting her fellow businesses with advertising and sponsorship opportunities, gift guides and article contributions. A small business supporting other small businesses which I love!

The Zine has gone from strength to strength over the last two years with the print-run quantity increasing with the latest edition. A true testament to Emma’s hard work and determination to provide other mums with a much needed resource that she desperately craved when she was struggling with her own journey into motherhood.

Isabella & Us. are a great addition to the Dotty collections.

Selfcare and Relaxation

‘A Little Bit Dotty’ is all about relaxing, pampering, feel good gifts so I thought it would be interesting to ask Emma a few questions on self-care and wellbeing and find out what she does to relax.

What does self-care mean to you?
For me self-care is all about supporting myself and making time for me to rest, relax and support my wellbeing. For me it is small daily habits that make a huge impact to how I approach my day.

What do you do to relax and unwind after a long day?
An early night is always my go to, or even just watching some TV in bed before falling asleep.

If you were on a spa day what would be your 'go to' treatment and why?
I do love a head and shoulder massage but also just relaxing in a Jacuzzi is amazing. Getting a hot tub for the garden is on my vision board!

You have 15 minutes to yourself with no interruptions, what do you choose to do with that time?
I would probably spend some time being creative, drawing or designing. Ensuring I have time to be creative is a crucial part of my self-care routine.

Treat the feet or treat the hands?
Treat the feet, always.

Our 'Kitchen is for Dancing' hand soap is a firm favourite. What tune would you choose for your Kitchen Disco?
I wanna dance with somebody by Whitney Houston is a favourite for our kitchen discos.

Bath or Shower?

I do love a bath, but I'm often joined by a toddler.

What kept you sane (or not!) during lockdown?
Spinning during the second and third lockdown when we were able to get a bike and always long walks in an evening.

You can take one luxury item with you to a desert island, what would you choose and why?
My Tropic Facecream, I'm not sure I could live without facecream.

If you were to pick one product from the Dotty collections (not your own) what would you choose and why?

Definitely Spacemasks, they are just amazing and such a treat!

A big thank you to Emma for taking part in Spotlight on the Brand.
